Poschte (Einkaufen) / Shopping
Living just outside of the city of Zürich is like being in the center of the universe - everything one could ever imagine is just around the corner. Shopping opportunities abound! For a food freak like myself, it's great that the neighboring villages have every ethnic market known to man, as well as the major grocery chains: Coop, Migros, Carrefour, and Denner. Along the "commercial strip" in Dietlikon are also Ikea, ToysRUs, Vögele, Jumbo, InterDiscount, PetShop, CoopCity, Obi, among many other retail stores. It's truly the consumerism mecca. AND . . . just in case you don't happen to find what you're looking for, in Wallisellen is the largest shopping mall in all of Switzerland - the Glattzentrum!
Despite the abundant choices, I still prefer to shop in the local Volg store - I can walk there, it has daily fresh produce from local farmers, daily fresh baked bread from Hänseler Bäckerei in Brüttisellen, fresh meat from the Metzger, freshly made pasta from Wetzikon, an outstanding cheese counter (cut from the wheel! NOT pre-packaged!), fresh eggs, and a really good selection of most other items (even peanut butter!). Additionally, I have an opportunity to chat with some of my neighbors to start the day off nice.
This afternoon, however, the kids and me are off to Ikea to check out the Kinderwelt . . .

I made the horrible mistake of reading this way before lunchtime. Now I am starving.
Like yourself, I love to cook, but my skillset is not all that advanced. But one thing I learned early on was that the quality of a dish improves tenfold if you can get your hands on fresh ingredients (especially herbs). Sounds to me like you are in a great place for that.
GRIN, here in Bern we say not Poschte we say 'Kömmerle';) and yes i do like fresh produce to, tho' I would like to have a well 'stuffed' wallet with me when i come to see you and then go on a real good retail therapy with you!! just girls having fun:)
